Sweet Buns is a game that was discovered while browsing puzzle games on Newgrounds. It's a fun matching game where you have to match an item with its respective card. Sounds simple but the challenge is fairly present.

During your first initial session, you're given a tutorial of sorts of the game mechanics which include but aren't limited to how the game functions. Though it's easy to forget, you'll learn relatively quick that you have to make use of the designated game controls in order to navigate the game window. Keys X, C along with the arrow keys are used most often; you can use the mouse but only outside of the game window.

A Tasty Experience

As stated earlier, Sweet Buns is a matching game of sorts. It can best be described as a cross between a match-[insert number] game and a fill the order game where you have to serve the item that is plastered on a card; think Kitchen Scramble minus the ingredients. When I first started playing, the controls took some getting used to along with the game rules.

After a couple of rounds, the controls came a little more naturally. Usually with some matching games, once you've completed a round or two successfully you don't want to touch it any more. This game is quite different as you're more than happy to go through several rounds in marathon fashion.

The way the game is laid out, after the completion of Normal mode you'll earn x-amount of coins which can be used to unlock pastries and game assists. To clarify, the assists are attached to the pastries which is pretty cool IMO. So, the more pastries you unlock, the more assists you'll have at your disposal.

In addition to the coins, Hard Mode will be unlocked and available for play. Hard Mode is truly challenging but if completed successfully you'll earn a lot of coins which can be used to unlock more pastries. Outside of pastries Infinite mode will be unlocked and no infinite does not equal easy.

Just as challenging as the other modes but your end goal is to complete as many orders as possible before stalling out. There's a lot of replayability present and as an added bonus you'll be granted rewards for reaching certain milestones. Meaning if you have an account you'll be able to earn and display game medals for accomplishing amazing feats.

Graphics

The graphics are like a dose of nostalgia for those of us who grew up with the early versions of SEGA, Nintendo and the like consoles. Game functions are responsive and once you get the hang of the controls gameplay is rather seamless. You can lose track of a couple of hours with this game so if you're taking a break from some tasks you may wish to set an alarm or timer as a little reminder that something else needs your attention; optional of course.

If you're up for a fun filled challenge of a game, then Sweet Buns is for you.
