Pop Slots: Mobile Game Review

It's been a while since a new anything was played. Some days ago I was introduced to a game called Pop Slots. It's an app only game, but you can save your progress via your Facebook account.

Quick Overview

Pop Slots MGM
Location 1: MGM
Pop Slots is a slots-type game where you spend in-game currency for a chance to win extra coins. The more in-game currency you spend, the higher the chances of you landing on a winning spin. At the start of the game, you'll only have access to one location; however the more you level up, the more locations you'll have access to.

Of course, before you can do any playing you have to create an avatar for yourself. There's one outfit, the standard, available at the start but as you unlock new locations, you'll earn new outfits.

The Game Plan

You have three pathways when comes to playing this game. They are: pay, occasional pay, and no pay. The first two pathways will definitely make things more manageable; however, the no pay option requires some patience.

While you are granted some coins at the start of your journey, you have to plan things out accordingly. Once the coins are gone, you will have to wait to claim the coin bonus which surfaces every two hours.

The Gameplay

As explained prior, you have to spend in-game currency to play the games. Each location has a variety of game areas to choose from. Within these game areas, are machines that are usually marked by an arrow or a note of popularity (Cool or Hot).

The mini areas house machines in groups of four with a mini screen above the game consoles. In addition to location specific ads, the screen also shows who has gifted balloons to their fellow players. On top of balloon gifts, the screen also displays social spins that have been granted.

Outside of the mini areas are two large screen areas surrounded by eight game consoles. These areas are for high stakes gaming where if you land on a big spin, everyone gets to participate in a free spin event where they get a chance to earn extra coins.

How I've Played (To Date)

I try to spend as much coins as possible so that I can earn XP to increase my level. A huge portion of my coins have come from collecting and earning. Majority of the time I'm F2P (Free-2-Play).

Coin Collecting & Earning
Location 2 : Mirage

You're granted coins when you first start. After that, you can collect free coins every two hours. On top of this, you can collect from checking in daily and from leveling up.

Coins are also earned through winning streaks from playing the games. The basic game machines produce good wins from time to time but the big screen games tend to reward the most because there's a chance to gain access to the big win event where your earnings are increased based on certain multipliers. I only have two locations at the moment but Wall of Khan and Bubble Madness are my two top favorites.

While playing these games there are extra bonuses in the form of balloons that will either reward XP (experience points) or game coins. Another big coin earner are the Win Zone mini tournaments where you gain a chance to earn extra coins for participating.

Earning XP

As stated above, you can earn XP by popping balloons. These balloons are released when either you or other players at your station reach a certain milestone. The speed of reaching these milestones is determined by how much you're spending per round.

XP is also earned through coin spending. The more you spend, the more XP you earn. Just thinking back to day one of gameplay, I was able to go from Lvl 1 to Lvl 14 and recently was able to go from Lvl 18 to 25 due to me spending a lot per round (thanks to the Jackpot and WoK wins).

How To Play: F2P Edition

You can pretty much figure out how things work with this game, but many may wish to go about playing F2P-style. Going this route will be difficult especially if you go into it without a good plan. Not only is a good plan needed, but a great deal of patience.

Like all games, when you're new you have to go through the tutorial. After that, you are free to do whatever. You're free to jump in and play at this point; however, it's advisable to start playing once you have at least one million coins, but in my opinion two million is preferred.

The reason for this is so that you can use the maximum amount of coins allowed per spin. The more you spend, the more XP you earn. If you're starting out and have below the preferred amount, then check in every two hours to collect free game coins during the time you're awake.

Let's say for example you earn 200K every two hours. Now let's say your first check-in is at 9AM and your last is at 9PM. Within that time frame, you would be able to collect a little over a million coins.

Add on top of this the daily bonus, and you'll have a hefty starting amount. MGM is going to be your first location and my go-to machine is the Mega Slots in the back; look for the turquoise machines with the music notes. Once you level up, you'll earn access to The Mirage.

Exercise Patience

While I've sampled most of the machines at both locations, I find myself going back to Wall of Khan at Mirage. While this is a really nice machine area you will need one and a half to two million coins to get a good play session. With that said, if you get a spin that grants you a spot on the wall for the prize draw, please stay put.

Even if you don't have any coins left to spin, stay where you are because there's a chance for you to earn those coins back plus a little extra once the reward session starts. The same goes for the Win Zone tournaments. Even if you don't have any coins left to spin the reels, stay put because there's still a chance for you to win something.

Impressions

Pop Slots was more entertaining than I was expecting. Compared to past experiences with games of this nature, this one is actually fun to play. There are times when I'm playing on the phone while working on the computer.

I'm still playing and working toward unlocking a new location along with a new outfit. Forgot to mention this about the Daily Bonus. Your Daily Bonus will appear around the time you first started playing.

My game bonus becomes available around 8PM since that's when I first started playing. So keep an eye on that. Also, keep an eye out for notifications as the game does notify you when something in game is available to collect.

Definitely worth playing if you're looking for something fun on the side, but try not to get too wrapped up in wanting to win every round. Till next time, keep gaming.
