Hero Wars Dominion: December Log

Quick Overview

Didn't mention much of this in November's post but I did manage to make some progress with the bosses. For the Phantom Orchestra, I have managed to do damage in the 10-million range consistently since the November 22-24 fights. This achievement comes on the heels of the Osh fight improvement.

I've defeated 105 and went on to fight 115 during the November 15-17 fights. These improvements came after a hunker down session of sorts where I was playing catch-up with stat upgrades (very much ignored up till this point. I was mainly upgrading hero artifacts - not too much - since they are never touched.

This is both from low resources and forgetfulness. Focus was mainly on the main set of heroes that I use on rotation. Most of the heroes utilized have some of their artifacts built up to where I need them.

Main Event: Heroes in a Half-Shell

December 2 - 21, 2024

December 2 - 15

Hero Wars Dominion TMNT Level 120 Red Rank 5-stars
Main Acct - Level 120 Turtles, Red Rank
Yet another throwback to childhood memories. We got a main event featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as our new hero. Rather than individual heroes they're 4-in-1 (whew).

There was a lot going on and surprisingly enough I made some progress. This is the first event featuring a new hero where I actually got said hero into the Red during the event. In fact, this is a record in a itself as it took 2-weeks to go from grey to red where it took nearly 7-years just to get one hero (Galahad - main account) to red rank.

The boss fight returned with more milestones for defeating each boss level successfully. Yes, the totem reward returned but I didn't go for it. In addition to this, we got a TMNT-event island along with some others.

Another first in a month of firsts, I participated on the islands and got some nice rewards. This includes 20K-emeralds along with some Secret Lab coins for Phase 3 of the event. There was also a little comic that accompanied each phase's release which was a nice touch.

Like most of the events, there was a season-like reward chain that granted rewards at each level. At the moment, we're working on Phase 4 of the event where we get the Treasury game board. Here, we get a chance at claiming more turtle soul stones so they can be leveled up for the designated event tasks.

So far, I've earned 135 turtle soul stones after spending 42-pickaxes.

December 19

Between last check-in and today, I managed to get the Turtles to 5-stars; got them to 4-stars using coins. This was thanks in part to the 135 from the Treasury and the 30 from the Path to Glory milestones.

Winterfest 2024: A Very Different Winterfest

December 22 - 30

December 26

Winterfest 2024 overview screen for earning baubles, winterfest island, winterfest shop, tree decorating, ranking, sending/receiving gifts.
Winterfest 2024 Screen
Turtles event ended on December 21 and Winterfest started on the 22nd. Missed getting Raphael's avatars from the turtles event and since it's no longer active, all avatars were removed from Turtle Island. Aside from that, Winterfest kicked off in a disorienting way.

Firstly, it's only going to be 10-days. Lastly, bauble earning is...slow. Usually, there's a new hero(es) and accompanying quests that reward massive baubles, but since we didn't get a new hero during the event, the opportunity for earning lots of baubles are gone; for me at least.

Moreover, we didn't get titan gifts this year which were replaced by Augustus season gifts which grant season experience and other gifts. In addition to this, we got Area of Conquest after being told it wouldn't show up during Winterfest. The main positive this time around, someone came and took first place from me which means I'm able to get the armor pen patterns that I need.

Other than that, I'm likely going to spend the remaining winter coins on gifts for myself and just hope I get what I really want from the letter thingy which they should just give us all three for a change. Oh, back to the gifts thing. There were two titan gifts last year.

Augustus season gifts replaced one - as mentioned earlier - and a war flag gift replaced the other. It's pricey and this is based on the low bauble earnings this time around. We also got two new winter skins: Helios and Augustus.

Unfortunately, Helios has to be purchased from the Winter Shop while Augustus is exclusive to the Augustus Golden Ticket. The only skin I wanted from the shop was Polaris' Cyber skin.

In other news, I did manage to get Augustus to absolute star status. The only heroes left are Lara Croft and the Turtles.

December 27

Didn't mention this earlier because I was still trying to understand what exactly was going on but a message from the dev team explained the situation...sort of. At the start of Winterfest there was a snafu of sorts that resulted in a reset. As a result, players were granted baubles as compensation which resulted in another issue where the amount of baubles granted didn't come close to the amount that was actually spent for some players.

Moreover, there were those that used emeralds to level the tree and it wasn't clearly understood if those players were going to be reimbursed for emeralds spent. In addition to this, the gifting system was also reset and players who sent gifts prior to the reset were now anonymous to their guildmates to whom they sent gifts to. The root...well, one of the root concerns for the reset had to do with Winterfest rankings at the start of the event.

The reset was meant to remedy the ranking, which was based on last year's numbers, I think, but made the ranking situation a little worse. Personally, I dislike the whole ranking thing with any event as I'm seeing the same guild(s) and individuals from these guild(s) place high every event with a ranking system - on my FB account at least.

For presents sent, there is only one person on the Top 50 list that isn't in a guild which leaves 49 that are actually in a guild. Of the 49, five come from a mix of silver and bronze guilds while the remaining 44 are gold. For presents received, the Top 50 are from the aforementioned gold guilds.

The tree decorating ranking list is the only list with a mix of gold, silver, bronze and qualifying league guilds. Wondering if the ranking problems would go away if they got rid of rankings for these types of events in general?

December 27 - 28 and Letter To Winterclaus

Made an interesting discovery with my web accounts while counting down to the opening of the Winter Letter. I was under the impression that all of my web accounts were in the same time zone, yet they aren't. Of the seven, only 3 received the Winter Letter at 11PM while the rest, plus Facebook, got theirs at midnight.

I'm punching air right now. Here's the assessment of the gifts per account:

Level 51 - Web:  Totem Sphere

Level 35 - Web:  Raid Ticket

Level 31 - Web:  Raid Ticket

Level 71 - Web:  Raid Ticket

Level 89 - Web:  2,500 Chaos Particles

Level 107 - Web: Totem Sphere

Level 130 - Web: 10K Emeralds

Level 130 - FB:  2500 Chaos Particles

Winterfest 2024 cobras and vipers avatars.
10 more to go for the viper avatar.
The Level 130 FB is the oldest and only has one, one-star totem. Compare this with the Level 107 account that already has a 2-star totem and just got a summoning sphere; this account is considered a low activity account. While I'm happy I got something, they really need to change how the letter works.

Needless to say, Winterfest is still going slowly for me. This is the first Winterfest where I felt disengaged. I remember being able to send one of each of the gifts on a daily basis in the previous years but now that's not happening.

One of the previous years was really good as I got all of the Winter Skins during a single event on top of the current year's. At the moment, I'm trying to save to the last day with hopes for a Hero of the Day that's at least one of the new heroes we got recently; excluding Augustus since he has his own event.

December 30

Well that didn't happen. The final Hero of the Day was Dorian. In fact, majority of the HotD heroes were heroes that you could get elsewhere in game with the exception of Augustus of whom you could get soul stones for daily from sending gifts along side the themed season.

So, I'm about to drop some gifts so I can get the avatar from event task and then send the rest to myself.

From Here Thru January 5, 2025

There wasn't much to do this Winterfest but it did give me time to examine my accounts. My FB account is in the process of improving in the areas I've neglected over the years. I'm doing better with the boss fights but also learned that it's not a good idea to experiment with hero switch-outs - namely with Maestro.

Of the seven web accounts, only two have functioning hero teams and passable titan teams. There are pets but they're nowhere near my main FB account. It would be so nice if they added a solo option for pet adventures with unlimited moves.

I'm waiting for the upcoming titan events in January to burn through my energy reserves on the accounts that were just granted raid tickets. In addition to this, I'm planning yet another experiment but with focus on titan building. Nothing special but just curious about what will happen.
