June's Journey (Android, iOS, Facebook)
My first hidden object game was Elite Dollz. Though not the main focal point of the game, hidden objects was part of the itinerary for earning coins. That particular game had a storyline and stuff to do outside of the story in addition to finding objects.
Like Elite Dollz, June's Journey follows the main character, June Parker, on her quest to solve the murder of her sister and brother-in-law. Things seem simple enough, but as time passes you quickly learn that things aren't always what they seem.
From here on out, the players are tasked with helping June to find and collect clues for solving the case. To do this, players have to complete stages known as scenes within each chapter. Reaching milestones grants rewards and clues.
Mastering a scene grants bonus rewards in addition to progressing to the next scene. As simple as this sounds, it's more of a challenge than a walk through the park. For starters, scene visits aren't just one and done.
Each scene requires multiple visits and each visit is different. Not only are the visits different, there are things you have to find that you may not be familiar with. By this, I'm referring to terms as well as items that aren't widely used in the present day.
Zeppelin, amphora and Jerry Can are some that may not be familiar to the average player. In addition to this are objects that have the same name but different appearances. Like plane for example, both real and paper planes are used in some of the scenes.

A Roaring 20s Mystery
The game takes place in the 1920s and focuses on a murder mystery. At the start of the mystery, the authorities declared it an open shut case. The daughter of the victims begged to differ and confides in her aunt, June Parker, with her findings. From here on out, the players are tasked with helping June to find and collect clues for solving the case. Activities
Outside of finding hidden objects within chapter scenes, you can decorate the estate. At the start of decorating, you'll have just the house and a bare patch of land. Within Chapter 1, you're given an introduction to the upgrades you can complete along with decorations for the land.
There are monthly collector events in game where you have to earn x-amount of the themed tokens in order to earn the mega prize of the collection. When I first started, the Garden Soiree collection was on display and the grand prize was a garden gazebo; fully constructed. The Great Outdoors is the current theme for June.
When you're not decorating visit your neighbor(s) for gifts and check your mailbox often. From letters for June (the character) to awesome letters from the devs, there's always something to look forward to. Speaking of something to look forward to, keep an eye out for the delivery car; it brings gifts daily*.
*The delivery car appears for the first 30-days of your gaming session. After that it disappears.
The Review
I was highly skeptical of the game's fun factor and hidden object aspect based on past experiences. Much to my surprise and delight, it delivers and rewards accordingly. The story is engaging, the rewards are substantial and the objects hidden in the scenes are literally one with the scene; they don't standout like a sore thumb.
The decoration aspect didn't seem like it was worth doing; but, it's tied into the gameplay. That said, there are decorating perks, which include gaining flower points for leveling up. The more you level up, the more scenes you'll unlock.
With most games, there are pros and cons involved. The only con for me was not knowing what certain objects were; especially by name. Despite the lack of knowledge, it did feel like you were learning something new each round.
Other pros include: earning coins in decent sums, milestone gifts, daily gifts, apology gifts when the game is down, being neighborly gifts, energy discounts plus, a nice mystery. June's Journey is one of those rare gems that surface that makes seemingly repetitive tasks engaging and fun. Definitely worth playing, even more so with friends; you know, as neighbors.
My property at current. The pic at the top is when I first started the game. |
