Word Life Game App

Word Life is the newest addition to the game app family. Have been playing for a couple of weeks up to this point. Compared to past word games, this one will take some getting use to.

Overview

Even though I haven't been playing as long as others, it soon became obvious that Word Life was going to be different. Essentially, the game layout looks like a crossword puzzle, however, you are tasked with finding as many words as possible from the collection of letters at the bottom of the screen. Sounds simple, but you have to plan each move carefully.

Despite that, it's a really engaging game. Moving on to the next level is on auto pilot at least every 10 -20 levels. Meaning, instead of going back to the main screen after each stage you are automatically taken there via the next button on the progress screen.

Gameplay and Observations

Gameplay involves arranging random letters to form different words from the provided collection of letters. Pretty much a no-duh moment but there's more. Remember when I mentioned how the layout resembled a crossword puzzle? Well, in order to fill those spaces you will have to chain connect the letters at the bottom of the screen to create the words needed to fill those spaces.

No worries if the word you created doesn't fill the space because it will earn you a point toward a coin bonus. In addition to the coin bonus, there are boosters available to help drop hints with a click. Now these hints come with a catch.

In order to use these hints, you have to spend coins; the in-game currency. While it doesn't sound like a big deal, coins don't accumulate in large sums. The only way for the amount to go up is if you collect and save.

The gameplay itself is smooth; however, there are ads within the game. I'm not talking ads to the side or hanging in the bottom bar, it's there too by the way. I'm talking pop-up style ads that are in your face every few stages.

There's an option to 'skip' but it's not really a skip as it's more of a fast-forward to the end where you can then proceed to close out the advertisement. Tap the screen with care so you don't accidentally tap on the offer itself. Is there a way around the ads? Yes.

challenge. I finished in 3rd.

Is the way around the ads likeable? No, but if you've been playing interactive games long, you may have an understanding for the process. That said, you will need some patience if you're going the F2P route; just saying.

After some stages a piggy bank will appear and collect spare coins after you complete each stage. To sum it up, it functions like the piggy bank in Bubble Witch 3. While I was happy to see it at first, I wasn't happy about how I had to access it.

Also, there are tournaments and coin earning opportunities that surface every once in a while. These events, as they're called, reward much needed coins. There is also a daily spin wheel where you can earn puzzle boosts.

For Now...

At the time of writing, my level is 354. Word Life is an intriguing word game that will occupy your attention for a long time. Or at least up till you have to stop and charge your phone.

There are pros and cons to playing but the pros out weigh the cons; to an extent. My top two cons are the constant ads and the hyper guessing game for words. Not every awesome word you think of is going to be part of the puzzle and worse even not all real words will register as real words.

Sure it can be a no biggie situation but you get a bonus for word streaks. So if you're on a roll and input a letter combo that forms a real word but isn't recognized as one, you could risk losing your streak and a chance at a bonus.

Also, don't forget to check back to the map page. There is an achievements icon, similar to Farmville Tropic Escape, where you can go and collect coins from your achievements. I'm still fairly new so hopefully at a later date, I'll be able to provide an update of sorts of my progress.
